Every fall, excitement is buzzing in the air as performers and producers gear up and head to Los Angeles. With stunning designer looks and live performances in-store, they travel down to the Dolby Theatre for NBC’S  Billboard Music Awards. This yearly event awards celebrities in many categories such as album and digital sales, touring/social involvement,  radio airplay, or amounts of streams on digital platforms. Some awards celebrities could win include top female artist, top duo or group, top hot 100 artists, and many more. This year, the award ceremony was sponsored by the trending app TikTok and streaming service Xfinity.

With COVID-19 cases still on the rise, there was much debate over whether this award show should be held or not.  In the end, the show did go on this November after being postponed back in April. Due to CDC guidelines, there was a very minimal audience, and select celebrities choose to tune in via video call. Even with this slight setback, NBC made sure to invite top influencers from all platforms to perform live, accept awards, or announce winners.

Kelly Clarkson was the host of the 2020 Billboard music awards and had the privilege to welcome and watch musical icons such as Doja cat, BTS, Luke Combs, Demi Lovato, Post Malone, and John Legend perform live. Other celebrities such as Addison Rae, Lily Singh, Cher, Twitch, and more announced category winners.

The night was jam-packed with action and excitement. Ultimately, the big winner was Post Malone who came home with a shocking nine awards, more than any other artist this year. Some included best rap tour, overall male artist, and the coveted title of artist of the year. Other celebrities, such as Kahlid, came out victorious as the night wrapped up. Kahlid won five awards, with Little Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus following close behind with four. Teen sensation Billie Eilish was a close runner up,  winning awards such as Top new artist and top female artist. Another honorable mention is Kanye West who won four awards mainly for his newest album, “Jesus is King.”
