Recently, students at Broughton have reported something called “gaslighting” around campus. Never in my life had I heard of such a term being thrown around like that. I did some research, and was absolutely shocked to find out that the number one individual dishing out this outrageous term was none other than Newspaper’s finest, Ms. Sheehan. When I asked about her alleged actions, she accused me of apparently “not doing my work” and even asked me “what even is gaslighting?” I tried to pry further but she quickly shut me down and forced me to do something called “writing a story.” After my fruitless attempt to sniff out the perpetrator of this social violence, I spoke to a few Broughton students and staff on how gaslighting affected them. When told that her AP and IB Chemistry students are suffering the long term effects of solving impossible chemistry equations, Dr. Carson said “it’s really not that hard” and “If I can do it, why can’t they?” I guess sophomore Patrick Mahoney couldn’t hear me, because when I asked him how gaslighting affected him personally, he responded “You never asked me that.” This strange trend continued when I interviewed junior Jack Yates on the issue. All he responded with was, “What? Get away from me weirdo.”
